Have some creepy sounds for your friday [09 Jun 2006|04:55pm]
My brother was in the hospital with heart surgery to repair a congenital heart defect. Being that we are very close, he told me everything he was feeling before the surgery and during the recovery of the surgery. It was an amazing experience for both of us.

I got together with a close friend of mine to score an improvised "soundtrack" to the experience for him, my friend being the producer and engineer, and other weird noise jockey.

While this "song" has no lyrics or any real structure, it does still capture a shape and I think it did well to reflect the moment it covered - the sickness endured after surgery in the ICU.

Today my brother is healthy and happy, the musical project didn't go anywhere really, but the work was fun to do and a breeze to produce since we were going for "Vibe" instead of structure.

Quick post for today... [07 Jun 2006|03:37pm]
[ mood | amused ]

It's my birfday, yay me.

I discovered that a some girl in NY left her T-Mobile Internet ready Cell in a Taxi Cab. Stupid, yes. Insurance? Sure, just replace the phone, no harm no foul, right?

NO. Some idiot girl found the Sidekick and started using it to take pictures, send IM's, Emails and the like. The girl who lost the phone was IMing the cell with but got no reply.

The way the Sidekick works is all the info gets uploaded to T-mobile. So when the original owner of the phone replaced it, she got a scad of photos, IM information and Email info related to the person who has the phone now. Including links to a Myspace profile.

Cops don't give a shit about cell phone theft, so what way to get justice? INTERNET HUMILITY. God this is a trainwreck, but it's so funny to read. Check it out:

How NOT to steal a Sidekick

One man's junk ... [06 Jun 2006|01:54pm]
[ mood | awake ]

I hate seeing people brag, but I just have to. My loving wife paired up with my brother to get me an Xbox 360 for my birthday! I have been a stalwart PC guy for my entire life. Probably because when the first Xbox came out, my PC was already more powerful than it was. But now I am seeing the light - Consoles are much more powerful than computers are at a fraction of the price. Don't buy it? Play Oblivion on a PC then play it on the 360. It's insane. What brings my P4 2.60Ghz to it's knees is displayed at a smooth 60 frames per second on my fucking TV. Awesome.

Also since I am a titanic flake my brother restored a discarded Compaq Ipaq for me to keep my head straight. Unfortunately it died after only a week. Some kind of connector malfunction made the screen flip like it was in a mirror. Oh well, it was fun being organized for a short while.

Lisa picked up a new glass coffee table for the livingroom which serves as a much better table than the US Army footlocker we were using before. Although we can't store our blanket in it quite so easily, it's a much more attractive living space than it used to be. Maybe I will get some pictures going if I can find the connector for my camera... where is my brain?

Ooh xbox. I am just distracted.

Holy Shit [31 May 2006|07:14am]
Everyone gushes about radiohead. I am no different, but I wish to prove my case here a little before I just take a number in the "sit down and shut up" department of your day. There is a well known play called Romeo and Juliet. Many know the story but few have had it told to them in a way that would really reach them. A while ago a movie was made depicting this tale in a modern setting. It was laden with imagry and big name bands were brought in to do an eclectic soundrack. Radiohead was one of these bands.

They created this song for the movie, and it's included on the soundtrack. If you are familiar with the play and / or are emotionally affected by the story at all, you will see right away that Raidohead has done the story justice in a very short poem. I share this with you, the words to Exit Music (for a film)

Wake... from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today.. we escape
We escape.

Pack and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before.. all hell.. breaks loose.

Breathe... keep breathing
Don't lose.. your nerve.
Breathe... keep breathing
I can't do this... alone.

Sing us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill
Such a chill

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules
and wisdom choke you
Now we are one
In everlasting peace

We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke
We hope that you choke.. that you choke

Here is a Youtube Performance of this song live.
Radiohead Exit Music

Enjoy.

Oh god I have been lazy this weekend. [30 May 2006|06:53pm]
[ mood | apathetic ]

I don't know what it is but occasionally some kind of neuron misfires in my tiny brain and I am stuck in this half-state of effectiveness. I did things that needed to be done. I accomplished a shower. I conquered the trashcan all the way to the curb. Other than these mountain-like conquests I didn't do shit this weekend.

There was a family gathering to celebrat lisa's unkle & grandpa's birthday. That was alot of fun, but the vegetarian pasta was loaded with noodles, cream and cheese. Hmm. It made my tummy exuberantly pissed off at me, and while I had to stow away into the bathroom stall escape pod of the country club, a friend of the family strolled in and took a seven minute piss. He was dissatisfied with his seating arrangement, being stuck with the parents of in-laws and he killed time talking to me in the can. He was more than a little drunk, but it was amusing none the less.

I have been working on a short Sci-Fi story. I will probably post a short draft here to bounce it off of you people. It's unlike anything I have ever written, and I hopefully manage to tie together all of the abstract portions that make the story interesting to me. I feel less lazy for having posted this, thanks for reading.

Cheers to you, little guy. [18 May 2006|03:20pm]
Lisa and I have a new cat. His name is Freddy Mercury although that name is tenative, pending Lisa's final approval. I imagine she will call him a bazillion other things before she settles on one name. (How could I have married another Gemini??) What's the point of naming a cat that doesn't come when you call it? When my sister and I were children, we lived in this trailer with lots of property. She had horses and used to call them by making this "tisk tisk" sound with her tongue against the roof of her mouth. I learned to call my first cat Stimpy with that same call, and I now continue the tradition by making that noise when it's time to feed Freddy.

I have been thinking alot lately about Stimpy. He lived to be seventeen, a regular senior citazen in cat years. A couple of years ago he was killed by a car that was probably driving too fast. I thought once that I should remember the day he died, so I can have a little memorial for him... but I eventually decided against it. The reason being that I think about him at least a little bit every day.

The people (and pets) you love in your life will stay with you forever once they are gone, it seems that all of the cliches are true. Every day is a memorial. Well, here's to you, Stimpy! Hope you are happy wherever you are.

God Bless The MicroKorg [15 May 2006|05:18pm]
The performance on the End went ok, we had setup problems and didn't have time to be interviewed. But we did have alot of fun, and I guess they re-aired the session on Sunday.

I cleaned out my car the other day and as I was stocking CD's for my miscelaneous journeys to different places, I realized that I don't have enough Sigur Ros in my inventory.

Sigur Ros is probably my favorite band in the world. I just can't shut the fuck up about them. They are supported by this Quartet of string players. Recently, this quartet has put together some music using experimental instruments and there's something distinctly beautiful and feminine about it (other than of course it's played entirely by females) and they have been opening the show for Sigur Ros under the name "Amina" - here is some footage from their performance on an Icelandic TV show.

Now I have no way to prepare you for this other than to open your mind and remove all of your expectations, this is not going to be like anything you have heard before - it is still amazingly beautiful. If it's not your thing you can still hear a bit and think "What the fuck?"

Why do computers make me feel good? [11 May 2006|06:01pm]
[ mood | FUCK YEAH ]

At work, I am responsible for running network Automation against Windows Vista. I can't tell you anything more about what I do other than Vista is fucking cool. Part of my job is to pool a bunch of machines together and execute a large number of tests against them in sequence and report results for a large audience. Well due to a bug in the testing system, my results have been shitty for the last two months. For a multitude of reasons, I couldn't get a solid execution of my test cases because something was always going awry in my test system.

So I broke it down into clusters, set the machines up married from client to controller and as of this minute they are all running perfectly! All my hard work has paid off. This has really caused me to lose some hair in the last few days, and I am glad the end is finally in sight. I will be happy, my customers will be happy and that is a good thing. (knock on wood)

Ok enough about work bullshit.

My band has been invited to play LIVE on 107.7 The End tomorrow afternoon between 6pm and 7pm. We are honored to be invited to do this, and play to such a large audience. I would greatly appreciate it if you have the chance to tune in. I heard we are going to be interviewed also, so if you feel so compelled, you can call in and harass me =)

Cheers,
-Robot

Silent hill, WoW and building 118 at 3 am Radio. [08 May 2006|12:17pm]
[ mood | awake ]

This weekend was my sister n' law's birthday. I got her a gift card from starbucks delivered nestled tight in the crotch of some pithy birthday card. It was a good time. BBQ hamburgers, Xbox 360 - in more detail, Full Auto which kicks ass, I don't care what IGN says. She is very pregnant. Her baby is due in July and we are all excited.

Saturday night my brother prepared for his trip to Vegas (for work) and he realized that he didn't have a cable to sync with one of the devices he is working on. Meanwhile Lisa and I had stole away into the night to watch the incredibly creepy movie Silent Hill. This movie was pretty good considering how bad the early CGI was in the previews. If you are into visual thrills, I recommend it. We rolled into the house around 1:15am and my brother called me. He wants me to go up to his office and help him rummage through boxes for the cable he was missing. Uuuh, ok? I didn't get home until 3:15am. My only saving grace was the stale half-bag of gummibears that kept me awake. Oh sweet chewy fruity goodness.

Sunday was a very sleepy day, Lisa had a Migrane that knocked her out and didn't buy her dinner or even call her back. I logged in to WoW to try and find something fun to do but it turned out to be super boring as usual. Alt F4 was executed the instant someone said "nigga cant tuch that metal fagz lol" I mean seriously, what the fuck? Multiplayer games are actually being ruined by the other players.

I found some time to kill. Livejournal is the solution. [05 May 2006|03:41pm]
Putting everything I have been into over the last year would be too goddamn much for one post, so I have committed my self to shitting out the occasional post about something that I found shiny and fixated on.

Let's do music, shall we?

Category: Other people's.

The list in no particular order:
Pinback - Semi accoustic home-brewed recorded band from the guy who brought you 3milepilot.
Matt Edington - Also home-brewed, a little more spacey and FANTASTIC production. Sweet lord.
Muse - Have you heard of muse? I got turned on to them by the music used in this video: Drakedog's last video (Safe For Work) I thought to myself, "That song is fucking cool!" and I was right, because it is.
Röyksopp - Norwegian goodness.
LandMammal - My former guitarist, a great guy and excellent songwriter.

Have a great weekend.
